I am a firm believer in eating breakfast EVERY DAY - not just eating breakfast, but eating a good breakfast. Your body needs nutrients after going for such a long time without. According to the California Dairy Council, a good breakfast includes 3 of the 5 main food groups.
Hopefully this weeks challenge is going to be an easy one for you because you are already a good breakfast eater. But just in case we have a few of you non-breakfast eaters, I have to throw in this challenge. Eating breakfast has been proven in multiple studies to be instrumental in helping people to lose weight and keep it off. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism going, it prevents binging later in the day, it promotes even distribution of calorie intake throughout the day, it gives you energy, promoting increased physical activity, and those who eat breakfast tend to make healthier food choices throughout the day.
So why are people skipping breakfast? The most common excuse I hear is, lack of time! I have come up with some great breakfasts that I can eat on my way to work. :) A piece of toast with peanut butter and a banana; or A Spinach Protein Shake and a piece of toast; low fat Granola, yogurt, and what ever fruit I have in the house is also a fast eat. Talk with your team and share some of your fast breakfast ideas.
You are not required to follow the California Dairy Council's rule for eating a good breakfast, but you are required to eat SOMETHING healthy for breakfast each day; a piece of fruit, a granola bar, cereal, omelet, etc. Try to avoid foods that are high in sugar! They will not stay with you for very long. (And you're trying to beat me out for losing the most weight ;))
Each day this week that you eat breakfast, you get 5 points for a total of 35 points. Be brave! Put away the high sugar cereals, pop tarts, etc. and find a good, nutritious meal.
